Demonstrating Student Shot Dead by Nigerian Police

A student has been shot dead, several have been injured and 19 arrested during clashes with police at the Obafemi Awolowo University, in south-western Nigeria. The students were protesting the suspension of two of their colleagues by the school authorities over union activities. The Osun State Police commissioner stated that trouble started when the police fired tear gas into the crowd of demonstrating students, eyewitnesses declared that then a gun battle started between some of the students and the police, leading to the death of the student.
