Amnesty International issued an urgent action appeal on 5 November 2002 concerning the safety of those involved in investigating human rights abuses committed during the military government in Tucumán Province (1976-83). Fernanda Sanssone, an archaeology student at Tucumán University working in an area being searched for remains of the "disappeared", is among the human rights defenders who have received threats.
