Amnesty International (AI) submitted the following update regarding Dr Faiza Alani on the 2 July 2002. Concerns for the safety of Dr Faiza Alani were raised in an alert on 27 July 2002 (see associated NEAR Alerts links). Dr Alani, an Australian national, had been held at the Seeb police station in the Omani capital of Muscat since 26 June 2002 and had her passport confiscated by the police.

Amnesty International (AI) reported on the 27 June 2002 that there were concerns for the safety of Dr Faiza Alani who may be in danger of torture. Australian national, Dr Faiza Alani has been held at the Seeb police station in the Omani capital of Muscat since 26 June 2002. She is reportedly being denied food, water and toilet facilities.
